A French pilot of the Normandie-Neman Regiment and a Soviet technical personnel are preparing a Yak-3 fighter for combat sorties. 1945.
The pilot on the photo is Lieutenant Marchi Roger. At the end of the war on his account were 13 downed German aircraft. On the wing of the Yak-3 fighter is a Russian mechanic, Senior Sergeant Leonid Ivanovich Sanin.

Soviet pilot, commander of the 1st Squadron of the 18th GvIAP captain Simon Sibirin, who shot down five German planes at this time of the war, congratulates the French fighter pilot Captain Albert Littolf after air combat, in which he shot down a German plane Fw-189. In the background, a Yak-1B. Semyon Sibirin in July 1944 was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. By the end of the war he had to his credit 16 downed aircraft. He died in May 6, 1949 in the line of duty. Albert Littolf died in a dogfight over the fasting month having been made this photo – 16 July 1943. He was posthumously awarded the Soviet Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree.

En fait, tous les originaux ont été détruits sauf 1, qui est au Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace.

12 avril 1945. Georges Henry, 24 ans, défie un ogre des airs, Günther Schack, 174 victoires. Lui, il en a 5... Mais il en veut tellement : il l'emporte ! Pourtant il ne savourera pas son exploit : une fois au sol, un chasseur le mitraille. Dernier pilote tué du Normandie-Niémen.

Le Normandie-Niémen, c'est 4 héros de l'Union Soviétique, 21 Compagnons, 273 victoires (36 probables) et surtout... 42 pilotes tués sur les 97 engagés !

Comme quoi, on râle après le straffing sur IL-2 et pourtant c'était tellement pratiqué...

Ce jeune pilote de vingt-quatre ans trouve la mort le 12 avril 1945. Ce jour, Henry Georges décroche sa dernière victoire sur un Fw 190 piloté par le Gruppenkommandeur du I./JG 51, le Hauptmann Günther Schack, titulaire de 174 victoire qui survit à la destruction de son appareil. Au cours de la même journée, il est victime d'un mitraillage au sol sur le terrain de Bladiau. Ses camarades parviennent à se protéger dans les abris. L'aspirant Henry n'a pas cette chance. Il meurt quelques heures plus tard à l'hôpital.


A propos de Schack:

Citation:
L'Hauptmann Schack est promu Gruppenkommandeur du I./JG 51 le 16 décembre 1944. Le 7 avril 1945, il totalise 13 victoires de plus mais doit de nouveau sauter en parachute le 12 avril. Cette fois-ci, il est sérieusement brûlé. Le 23 avril 1945, le I./JG 51 est dissout et le 1 mai, Schack devient Gruppenkommandeur du IV./JG 3, un poste qu'il occupe jusqu'à la fin de la guerre. Au total, Schack sera crédité de 174 victoires remportées au cours de 780 missions de combat. Toutes ses victoires avaient été remportées à l'Est. Lui-même avait été abattu 15 fois au cours de sa carrière.

Ouah abattu 15 fois.
Comme on dit dans la légion, respect pour mon ennemi.
Pour avoir fait 2 sauts en parachute dont 1 en automatique, j'en ai les genoux qui tremblent encore. Donc sortir d'un chasseur endommagé, voir blessé soit même, ça doit être coton.

Le dernier vétéran du régiment Normandie Niémen Valentin Ogourtsov s’est éteint le 27 octobre 2021.

Il fut le mécanicien des pilotes Y. Mourier et G. Henry.

Avec son décès se tourne la dernière page vivante de la célèbre escadrille dont la mémoire restera à jamais gravée dans les esprits.
